How to Obtain a Police Records Check (City of Ottawa)

Before You Begin

NOTES:
1) Starting Sept 1, 2019, the Ottawa Police Service will charge a fee to volunteers for producing a Police Record Check. That part of the process is not covered by this (older) tutorial.
2) This tutorial only applies to residents of the City of Ottawa, or those employed within it.

Before obtaining a Police Records Check, you will need:
A) A volunteer letter on Scouts Canada, Voyageur Council, or your Group's letterhead.
B) A means of making an online payment (credit card, PayPal).

Browse to olbc.ottawapolice.ca

1. Enter olbc.ottawapolice.ca in your browser address bar to navigate to the police website.
2. Select Create Account if you are applying for your first online PRC with the Ottawa Police Service.
Otherwise, skip the next 3 steps, and go to the step titled Login to Police Website.

Agree to Identification Process

Read the terms.
1. Click I Agree.

Confirm Age and Residency

1. Answer the first question
2. Answer the age question.
2. Select Confirm.

1. Enter your Last Name.
2. Enter your Given Name.
3. Enter your email address.
4. Enter your email address again.
5. Enter a user name. You will need to remember this for future access.
6. Enter a password. It must have at least 9 letters and contain at least one upper and one lower case letter, numers and at least one special character.
7. Enter your password again
8. Check the AODA box, if applicable
9. Select Create Account.

Login to Police Website

1. Select Login.

Enter Credentials

1. Enter your User Name. (e.g. the one you defined when you created an account above)
2. Enter your password.
3. Select Login.

Input Registration Code

If you registered earlier, you will have received a code in your email client. Otherwise, proceed to next step.

1. Enter the code that you received via email in the field titled Input Registration Code Here.
2. Select Complete.

New Application

1. Select New Application.

Select Check Type

IMPORTANT - you must select the correct type of check

For New Scouters, select Level 3 (Vulnerable Sector Check)
For Returning Scouters, select Level 2 (Criminal Record and Judicial Matters).

Confirm the Level

1. Confirm the Level by selecting the Choose Level (2 or 3) button.

Warning

1. Select Continue.

Notification

1. Select Continue.

Delivery Choice

1. Select whether to receive your PRC by mail or email. NOTE: Email is preferred, and it is accepted by Scouts Canada.
2. Select Continue.

Enter Personal Information

1. Enter Name Information
2. Enter Birth and Sex Information
3. Select Continue.

Current Address

1. Enter Current Address
2. If required, enter Address History
3. Select Continue.

Notification

1. Select Continue.

Certification

1. Check boxes.
2. Select Continue.

Review Info

1. Review the Information
2. Select Continue.

Enter Phone number and SIN

1. Enter Home Phone Number
2. Enter Social Insurance Number
3. Select Continue.

Questions

1. Answer the questions.
2. Select Continue.

Failure

You may not be able to be uniquely identified. If so, this warning will appear.

1. Select Continue.

Contact Info

1. Enter a phone number.
2. Enter email
3. Enter your email address again.
4. Select Continue.

Reason for Check

1. Under Reason For Request, select Volunteer (Unpaid Work)
2. Select Continue.

Name of Agency

1. Enter the Volunteer Agency as "Scouts Canada"
2. Select Browse... . A dialog will appear, allowing you to select the Volunteer Letter (JPG or PDF format) provided by your Group Commissioner.
3. Select Continue.

Consent

1. Check the boxes to indicate consent.
2. Select Continue.

Review

1. Review the information.
2. Scroll down, select Continue.

Proceed To Checkout

1. Select Proceed to Checkout.

Proceed to Checkout 2

1. Once wasn't enough. Select Proceed to checkout.

Email the PRC to your Group Commissioner

The application has been completed.

LAST STEP: In a couple hours to a couple weeks, you will receive the PRC as an email attachment from the Ottawa Police Service. Forward that email to your Group Commissioner.
